Ahmad Said Reciting Racial "Historical Fact",
but for What?

UMNO is resorting to their normal tactic, inciting racial hate and slurs.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, UMNO’s Division Chief has decided to utter “historical facts” with regards to the status of Chinese (and Indians) in this country. And, confident as he is, he even organized a press conference flanked with UMNO division chiefs from all over Penang.

In the press conference, he made a challenge:

“"If the Chinese can question the special rights of the Malays, the Malays can also question the citizenship of the Chinese."
What is weird is that no one from the Chinese, Indian or even Malays are questioning the Malay Special Rights clause in the Federal Constitution. Even in the Bar Council forum held a few months ago, the panelist agreed that the Social Contract is binding. In spite of the controversy preceeding the forum, the forum could not agree on the status of the Social Contract, whether it’s binding or not.

Instead of questioning the status of the Chinese, Ahmad Said should instead question why UMNO Penang has failed to alleviate the economic status of the Malays in Penang despite being in power for the last 50 years?

Do we see significant presence of Malay business establishments in the downtown Georgetown? How many Penang Malays that are successful businessmen as well? How many Malays are actually self sufficient economically that they do not require help from the government for projects and contracts?

The biggest question would be has UMNO been successful in developing the Malay’s economic attainment free from the practice of corruption, nepotism and collusion?

Such is the measure of UMNO’s sucsess in the development of the Malay’s economic condition in Penang for the last 50 years.

Then again, if the Malays are properly guided and improved economically in the last 50 years, I am sure the current racial incitement adopted by Ahmad Said would not have been effective.

I feel that the main motivation behind all these shenanigans can be listed as follows:

   1. People like Ahmad Said requires the free publicity for the upcoming UMNO elections
   2. It is no more than an expression of anger and frustration

Allow me to dwell on point (1.) a little bit more.

As I have been informed, all over the Pakatan state, UMNO contractors who use to thrive under the BN government are now suffering. They are no more receiving direct award contracts and as such they cannot turn back to practicing their “subcontracting” practices of over value contracts they use to receive on a constant basis.

As such, now most of these UMNO contractors are jobless and surviving on their savings. As their savings deplete, they are becoming very agitated and not to mention pressed. So, a desperate man resorts to desperate measures. In this case, their desperation is expressed in the form of inciting racial tension.

If one were to look upon this from an objective perspective, one will see that it is nothing more than an act of provocation done by a desperate group of people trying to cling to the country’s wealth.

Therefore, my advice is to just ignore him as no one will actually care about them. They are slowly dying and their kind is already on their way towards oblivion.
