SERANGAN MUKHRIZ TERHADAP DSAI
TINDAKAN TERDESAK ALIH PANDANGAN
![]()
Kenyataan Media, 17 Mei 2008
"When he was finally released from prison in 2004, U.S. policy on Iraq was unpopular in Malaysia, and Anwar was harshly critical. It would have been easy for him to disown our friendship, but he is not that kind of person. He kept the channels of dialogue open, even while making clear our disagreements."
* The Arab Focus on Rule of Law Reform - The Arab Center for the Development of the Rule of Law & Integrity (ACRLI) (Jordan)
* Regional Action Network on Tolerance - Ramallah Center for Human Rights Studies (RCHRS) (Palestin)
* Youth and Democracy Reform in Yemen - National Forum for Human Rights (NFHR) (Yemen)
* Middle East Center for Media Excellence - Samir Kassir Foundation (Lebanon)
* Women's Human Rights Education Program - Al-Jamiya Al-Khairiyah Al-Islamiya Al-Amlieh (Philanthropic Amlieh Association) (Lebanon)
* Promoting the Independence of the Egyptian Judiciary - United Group: Attorneys at Law, Legal Advisors and Human Rights Advocates (Mesir)
* Institutional Support for the Central Elections Commission - Central Elections Commission (Palestin)
* Human Rights Information & Training Center - HRITC (Yemen)
* The Arab Center for the Development of the Rule of Law & Integrity - ACRLI (Jordan)

Press Statement, 17th May 2008
The statements made by Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir with regards to Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim's alleged connections to American anti-Islamic elements are entirely misleading and done in bad faith.
The choice of Paul Wolfowitz as the author for the Time Magazine article on Dato' Seri Anwar was an independent decision made entirely by Time Magazine themselves.
Datuk Mukhriz conveniently fails to note a significant passage within Mr. Wolfowitz's article itself, which states that:
"When he was finally released from prison in 2004, U.S. policy on Iraq was unpopular in Malaysia, and Anwar was harshly critical. It would have been easy for him to disown our friendship, but he is not that kind of person. He kept the channels of dialogue open, even while making clear our disagreements."
Mr. Wolfowitz himself admits that Dato' Seri Anwar's stance on Iraq was harshly critical and that Dato' Seri Anwar made clear his disagreements.Dato' Seri Anwar's decision not to burn bridges only speaks to his statesmanship, as clearly, blindly severing ties would not have helped to stop the war or contribute towards any hope for peace in the future.
Accusations about the Jerusalem Post alluding to Dato' Seri Anwar as the next Prime Minister of Malaysia borders on ridiculous. If Datuk Mukhriz can prove that the Jerusalem Post was the only newspaper in the entire world to speculate that Dato' Seri Anwar may well be the next Prime Minister of the world, then perhaps his accusations may actually hold some water.
The truth is that media in the rest of the world does not come under the control of Barisan Nasional, unlike media in Malaysia. Objective eyes all around the world can see the plain truth that recent political developments, a people's renaissance and the impending implosion of Barisan Nasional all point strongly towards the possibility of Dato' Seri Anwar becoming Malaysia's next Prime Minister.
With regards to the Foundation for the Future, Datuk Mukhriz enthusiastically points out the sources of the Foundation's funding, but fails to elaborate on how the money was spent.
Among the many projects that the Foundation has spent millions supporting are:
* The Arab Focus on Rule of Law Reform - The Arab Center for the Development of the Rule of Law & Integrity (ACRLI) (Jordan)
* Regional Action Network on Tolerance - Ramallah Center for Human Rights Studies (RCHRS) (Palestine)
* Youth and Democracy Reform in Yemen - National Forum for Human Rights (NFHR) (Yemen)
* Middle East Center for Media Excellence - Samir Kassir Foundation (Lebanon)
* Women's Human Rights Education Program - Al-Jamiya Al-Khairiyah Al-Islamiya Al-Amlieh (Philanthropic Amlieh Association) (Lebanon)
* Promoting the Independence of the Egyptian Judiciary - United Group: Attorneys at Law, Legal Advisors and Human Rights Advocates (Egypt)
* Institutional Support for the Central Elections Commission - Central Elections Commission (Palestine)
* Human Rights Information & Training Center - HRITC (Yemen)
* The Arab Center for the Development of the Rule of Law & Integrity - ACRLI (Regional - Based in Jordan)
Contrary to Datuk Mukhriz's jealous and misguided suspicions, Malaysians should be proud of the high regard in which the international community views one of our own - choosing Dato' Seri Anwar both to Chair a Board of Directors in the Foundation consisting of prominent international personalities, as well as choosing him as one of the 100 most influential people in the world - the first time this honour has ever been accorded to a Malaysian.
There is clearly nothing suspicious in Dato' Seri Anwar's involvements and working relationships. Sadly, the same cannot be said for those close to Datuk Mukhriz.
While the relationships Datuk Mukhriz alludes to have been demonstrated to be entirely professional and ethical, Malaysians will have to bear the shame of a former Prime Minister, Tun Mahathir Mohammed, having been exposed as being involved in the payment of RM 4.6 million to a staunch pro-Zionist American lobbyist, Jack Abramoff in order to secure a meeting between Tun Mahathir and President George Bush.
Abramoff pleaded guilty to bribing American politicians and defrauding Native American tribes in casino deals, and Tun Mahathir himself has admitted that the money was paid to secure the May 2002 meeting, calling it "normal practice." The recent findings of the Royal Commission demonstrate Tun Mahathir as a man who has no qualms about using vast sums of money to exert undue influence.
We note that Dato' Seri Anwar has no need to pay anyone in order to be invited by global leaders and heads of state, and are proud of his standing internationally, especially in the Islamic world, where his views as a statesman and a scholar are held in extremely high regard.
Datuk Mukhriz's attacks are clearly a desperate attempt to deflect public attention from the Royal Commission report that implicates his father's abuse of power and systematic destruction of the integrity of our judiciary.
We invite any and all to objectively scrutinise Dato' Seri Anwar's record as an exemplary Malaysian, Muslim and Malay leader who has invariably and consistently stood for what is right, and what is just - for Malays, Muslims, Malaysians, and for every human being.
